Our mission is to auto tune optimally millions of PID control loops. They are out there in various plants, machines and now increasingly in robots. We want to replace trial and error method of tuning with Adaptive Intelligent (AI) Optimal Tuning autonomously and accurately for the entire spectrum of real world process behaviour. The algorithm for doing this has evolved over a period of two decades of single minded research and creative solution.
As shown herein, PID as a controller in its native form is indeed very fragile, however, the same PID controller with our AI-PID Auto tuning perform like a butter knief, slicing perfectly every time no matter how hard is to control the process. PID has a long pedigree and with the AI-PID Auto Tuning, it will outlive all other methods of control, including a maze of methods of tuning PID evolved over last 100 years. The AI-PID of PIDAnalytix offers a unique approach to tackling 100 year old PID control tuning problem. In the 256 cases examples presented herein, of extreme variations of process gain, dynamics we have clearly demonstrated the power PID control still to be reckon with. With our unique adaptive intelligent (AI) PID tuning, control loops can be tuned in real time every time.
There have been countless methods of tuning PID devised by many distinguished practitioners and academics worldwide over last 100 years. Individually and collectively each of these methods have had a rather limited scope of application, most of them lack the degree of robustness necessary to deal with the real world variations such as gain change, dynamics and process noise.
PID Replacements Have Not Worked As Well..
However, the attempts to replace PID with other forms of control such as model predictive control (MPC) and more recently active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) have had limited and sporadic success.
Interestingly, ADRC is the latest attempt to overcome the deficiencies of PID control and model predictive control by making it model free and PID free. This new method of control had a certain degree of success in a narrow class of problems, notwithstanding the fact that no two applications of it are same, rather each come with a particular form and variation that only the author (Ph D accredited) of the method can fully comprehend. In a recent publication by one of the prime mover of ADRC expressed his dissatisfaction of the slow adoption of ADRC in the industry. After 20 years of its creation, there are less than 30 published example applications. Thus, in reality in the attempt to replace PID with ADRC has no sustaining power to replace those tens of millions of PID loops out in the real world. A closer examination of the ADRC method of control, it would seem more complexity is expanded to do a simple single input single output loop. Complexity induces its own problems.
Whereas, AI-PID has a unique method of control devised based on the innate power of its tuning values and adaptations which arise from the characteristics of the process itself and not based on unreal artifact of such as "extended state observer error" in the ARDC method.
After all, as demonstrated herein, PID when used in conjunction with an adaptive intelligent tuning algorithm has more power of control than other more complicated methods.
